Some gifts last; some don't. Chocolate, cheese or a fine dining experience last moments, but soon become a faded memory. Alternatively, a book, a watch or jewellery are lasting gifts that keep on giving.
It might seem strange to talk about gifts on Easter Sunday, but today completes the second half of God's Christmas gift.
At Christmas we celebrate God moving into the human neighbourhood. The Christian narrative says the baby Jesus grew up to be a perfect expression of love and hope and compassion. He declared this in acts of sacrificial service and gracious acceptance, and in his words.
Then came his death on a cross, opening the purest connection between God and all people, on what we call Good Friday.
Today we recall the dramatic resurrection of Jesus, an event offering all people hope beyond bleak and difficult life experiences. I invite you to believe in the risen Jesus; and to know life in deathly places, light in darkness and hope in despair.
