At the CCVT AGM on Saturday May 6, The Church Next Door was welcomed as an affiliated church with CCVT.
The Church Next Door (TCND) was planted in 2012 with a team of 18 adults and a couple of children. It was formed around the primary organising principle of Missional Communities, after a long pre-planning period focussing on the question of ‘What would it look like to be the church?’. TCND hadn’t seen it done quite like this before and soon found a like-minded network with Soma Communities (USA). The next 2-3 years comprised a long season of learning how to live as families of missionary servants in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne.
TCND has sensed that a partnership, like affiliation with CCVT, should be based on relationship and where it saw the most connections relationally, and where there was an opportunity to contribute to a movement. After a season of discernment by the whole church, the team decided to pursue a relationship with CCVT. Affiliation with CCVT fulfils important things the chruch stands for; to not be ‘lone rangers’, to be part of something bigger and to receive accountability and support from a wider collection or network.
You can find out more about the church at www.thechurchnextdoor.com.au.
CCVT welcomes TCND into the movement, and looks forward to the conversations that will continue and flourish into the future.
