Chelsea: Feed Melbourne grant
$9000 to help feed 200 hungry mouths
CHELSEA CareWorks is feeding the hearts and minds, as well as the stomachs, of almost 200 hungry people every week.
Co-ordinator Lyn Duclos said people from “all walks of life” attended the Blantyre Ave centre’s free breakfast and lunch.
“Some people in the community are doing it very tough and our breakfast and lunch may be the only decent meal they get during the week,” Ms Duclos said.
“But it’s also about breaking social isolation - our kitchen is bringing the community together.”
The Church of Christ-run centre has received a $9000 Feed Melbourne grant to install a commercial refrigerator and gas line.
This year’s Feed Melbourne campaign raised $530,000, with money donated by readers of the Leader, local businesses and charitable organisations.
