Thornbury: 90th Anniversary

Thornbury_GMP_story_040811On Sunday 5th June Thornbury Church of Christ celebrated 90 years of witness in this area, due entirely to the extravagant grace of God.

During the months before this milestone we considered the options to feed the anticipated number of former members returning for the day. I’m sure the Lord spoke to us, reminding us that it would be a misuse of funds providing food for a community which is already overfed by world standards. So we elected to only provide a light luncheon after church. In May the ladies asked folk, via the extensive church grapevine, to bring plates of food on the day. Rather than paying for a meal, people were invited to make a donation to Churches of Christ Overseas Aid (COCOA).

The anniversary day arrived and about 115 people enjoyed a time of celebration, thanksgiving and reminiscing. The light lunch was a success. So much food materialised on the day that I asked the ladies where it all came from! There were the proverbial 12 baskets full left over and we had much pleasure in sending through a donation of $300 for COCOA. God is truly wonderful!
