Castlemaine Church of Christ

There are a relatively large number of students at Castlemaine Secondary College who come from financially stressed families and/or have serious behavioural issues and learning difficulties. Castlemaine Church of Christ is located in close proximity to the College campus and, as our desire is to actively engage with the wider community, we have commenced several programs at the College. These include one-on-one mentoring and tutoring, the Scripture Union SOAR adventures program, (a life skills program for teens), and a breakfast program that provides breakfast (and for some, lunch), on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. We are now supplying in excess of 200 breakfasts per week. This program is run entirely by volunteers from Castlemaine Church of Christ, with the help of some others from the wider community who support what we are doing. Our primary aim in supplying breakfast is to demonstrate the love of Jesus by acting as his hands and feet.

The program relies on donations of bread from local businesses, food sourced from Foodshare in Bendigo, and the purchase of additional materials such as milk, Milo and cheese. As an indication of the scale of our program, in the past twelve months we have spent almost $3,000 on cheese slices alone.

Donations of cash would greatly help to keep the program viable!
