Easter Day

Wednesday, 5 April 2017

Prepared for 89.9 Light FM for Easter 2017.

It’s Easter time. Most of us know the story.

We think back to Good Friday; of God’s love expressed in the death of his son, Jesus. We think about the day in between: The desolate waiting, the bleak tension, Saturday.

We have our ‘Fridays’. They are not good. Pain, loss, grief, despair; a broken heart, a broken body, a broken promise. A worrying uncertainty or a scary certainty. Little and big ‘deaths’. A world we cannot see beyond.

And ‘Saturdays’ seem to last forever.

But as an old preacher said, “It may be Friday, but Sunday’s a’comin’”.

And it’s here; and we remember, from our past somewhere: He is risen. He is risen indeed. And we wonder, can the heart of Easter, the hope of the empty tomb, be our story too?

Easter Sunday’s central narrative, an empty tomb, invites us to belong to a death and resurrection people. Faced with our little ‘deaths’ and our big questions, we all need resurrection, in little and big ways.

Happy Easter!
