As Ararat church, we are really excited about what God is doing in our midst. The last sixteen months have seen the Lord blessing our work, and twelve people have given their lives to Christ.
I realise that for some churches that isn't very many, but to us it's a significant breakthrough, especially for a small church in a small town. Two of the latest additions to the Kingdom, only recently, are testimony to how God works in people's lives.
Unknown to us, an eighteen year old student, had been pacing up and down outside our church premises, working up the courage to come in. He finally walked up our footpath when the service was well and truly over and just as I was leaving. When I asked him if I could help him, he replied, “I want forgiveness of sins.”
I immediately thought of Paul's experience with the Philippian gaoler. Here was a young man actually seeking salvation. I had the privilege of taking him into the church office and leading him to Christ. He has attended every week since as well as joining our youth group.
As it happens, he is from an unchurched family, but that's no barrier to the Lord. A few weeks earlier he'd had a dream where he saw Jesus. In the dream, Jesus looked at him and said that he forgave him for his sins and would watch over him.
Needless to say, I was on a high when I got home. But that wasn't all. That afternoon, my wife Alli received a call from a young woman in distress. Alli met the woman out at the cemetery that evening and found her curled up in the foetal position, and ready to end it all. Praise God, the young lady not only didn't commit suicide, but also gave her life to Christ.
We are excited about what God is doing and trusting that he will continue and increase what he has begun and will help us to reach the people of Ararat.
