In response to the situation in Afghanistan, GMP are partnering with Action by Churches Together (ACT) Alliance to help provide accommodation and supplies to people who have been forced to flee.
Families have hurriedly left their homes bringing almost nothing with them. They are sheltering in camps that are cramped, unsanitary and lack even the most basic medical facilities. Many displaced families and communities have taken refuge in temporary settlements in Kabul, Herat and Nangarhar. Each settlement accommodates more than 1000 families. With as many as ten people living in only one or two rooms in huts constructed from mud, poles and plastic sheets, these uprooted individuals and families are unable to practise social distancing.
The lack of water facilities is forcing them to travel long distances to obtain water. Most Internally Displaced Persons living in these settlements and camps have not received any personal protective equipment such as face masks or sanitisers, nor has any information been circulated to raise awareness of COVID-19.
Your gift to the GMP Afghanistan Appeal will help provide food, shelter, and medical and sanitation supplies for people impacted by the upheaval in Afghanistan. This will also include people sheltering in Pakistan.
These supplies will be directed through trusted ACT Alliance partners that are well placed to distribute support and care for those in need.
Please give now to help those affected by this unrest. You can give potentially lifesaving accommodation and supplies to people in need.

A prayer for Afghanistan:
We unite with Christians around the world and pray for the people of Afghanistan. We are overwhelmed by the images we see of people fleeing. We hear stories of people fearful as to their future and who see no way out.
With the return of the Taliban to power and their history we are sensitive to the vulnerability of the small number of Christians and to the fears being faced by women and girls and the risk of limitations to their empowerment and education.
Our prayer is for protection and peace for all. May those who are without food and shelter, and are fleeing with a fear of the future, find safe havens of peace and care.
We pray for the global response to this crisis, that governments will be open and courageous and welcoming of people fleeing their homeland.
We pray for peace and justice, not war. We long for your word which paints a picture of swords becoming plough shears and the wolf dwelling with the lamb being fulfilled. It is this vision that gives us hope.
May this be true for Afghanistan and for so many places in your world that are in turmoil.
We pray in the name of Jesus,
