Sixty years ago, Pastor Sir Doug Nicholls successfully campaigned so that the second Sunday in July became a day to celebrate Aboriginal people and their culture. What is now known as the National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee (NAIDOC) was formed and, over time, the committee’s acronym became the name of the weeklong celebrations. During NAIDOC week (July 3-10) celebrations are held across Australia to commemorate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Affinity, the document that describes the relationship between CCVT and affiliates, includes a commitment by churches and agencies to value the story and reputation of CCVT by “Ensuring our ministry and mission activities are safe places for all people”. This commitment is a central tenet in CCVT being the Renewal Movement God is calling us to be, together doing better at building Communities of Hope and Compassion, and developing Leaders to lead them.
