CCVT | Church Development and Leadership Consultant

Exciting opportunity to assist in resourcing the strategic formation and accreditation of ministry leaders within the congregations of the Churches of Christ in Victoria and Tasmania, and to support the implementation of the existing ‘Supporting Growing Churches’ initiative.

This role is ideally suited for someone who has been, or is, a ministry practitioner with a demonstrated track record of growth who is well networked and understands the culture of CCVT and is committed to the strategic direction outlined through the CCVT 2020-2025 Strategic Plan. 

Primary Task

To engage with the Affiliated Churches and Agencies of Churches of Christ in Victoria and Tasmania (CCVT) to work in close alignment with the Communities and Leadership Teams and Team Leaders (as part of the CCVT Communities and Leadership Functional areas) in the following areas:

  • Assist in resourcing the strategic formation and accreditation of ministry leaders; and
  • Support the implementation of the existing ‘Supporting Growing Churches’ initiative.

Standard Requirements

Mission and Values

To understand, support and promote the Mission and Values of CCVT. 


To report to the CCVT Communities Team Leader in an agreed form, as and when required, giving particular attention to the themes outlined in the Specific Requirements below.


To demonstrate the values of CCVT in all interactions with all involved in the performance of this Position Description. As this role will include issues relating to Ministry, and as an Endorsed Minister (or a person seeking Endorsement) the successful candidate will sign, and maintain in practice, the CCVT Code of Ethics for People in Ministry.


To maintain confidentiality; and to not divulge any unauthorised information about CCVT’s operations or any Leader, Minister, or Affiliate.

Continuous Improvement

To facilitate the improvement of the quality of relationships and communication between CCVT and its Affiliates and Leaders/Ministers and all other entities CCVT relates to and is connected with.

Professional Development

To attend relevant programs that improve and enhance leadership skills appropriate to the position.

Statutory Obligations

To adhere to all CCVT policies, procedures and practices, and any relevant legislation.

Specific Requirements:

The Church Development and Leadership Consultant will:
  • Implement an established model for creating a leadership pipeline for CCVT around a culture of coaching, learning communities, formation and professional development.
  • Deliver training for current and future leaders with in-house training programs in conjunction with the Leadership team.
  • Assist with the implementation of CCVT’s accreditation and endorsement policy including conducting associated interviews and training.
  • Be the point person for and manage the development and implementation of CCVT’s Affiliation Policy.
  • Work with the Communities Team in the engagement of Affiliates in the Supporting Growing Churches Initiative. With a particular focus of facilitating cohorts and providing oversight for, and participation in, associated coaching support.
  • In conjunction with the Communities Team leader, participate in developing strategic support/responses for affiliated churches and agencies.
  • Embrace and promote the identity and ethos of Churches of Christ.
  • Utilise appropriate administrative support.
  • Ensure all relevant documentation is maintained and reports provided in a timely manner as required.

Selection Criteria

The appointee will:
  • Be a follower of Jesus; a following expressed through a lived out generous Christian orthodoxy. 
  • Have a capacity to relate, connect and provide leadership from within the centre of the movement known as Churches of Christ.
  • Have a demonstrated link (or, a willingness to develop a link) to an affiliated Church of Christ community as a valued member/partner and active participant.
  • Have demonstrated, as a ‘self-starter’, an imaginative, innovative and intentional church leader of their own, including demonstrated skills, passion and experience in leadership development and missional engagement.
  • Be a team-builder and a team-player.
  • Have completed (or are willing to complete) theological formation.
  • Be (or willing to be) an Endorsed Minister within CCVT.
  • Have a current Working with Children Check and be able to supply a National Police Check.
  • Have well-developed (and continuously developing) communication, relational and self- and time- management skills.
  • Have a commitment to flexibility and quality.
